Um, no...neither have I.
Wassail?
Isn't that something we sing about at Christmas? Yes. I found a wassail recipe while looking at Christmas inspiration ideas over at HouseBeautiful.com.
I want to try it!
Wassail Bowl
Serves 12
1/2 pound sugar
1 teaspoon nutmeg or 1 whole nutmeg, grated
7 12-oz. bottles light beer
1/2 pint sherry
1 teaspoon nutmeg or 1 whole nutmeg, grated
7 12-oz. bottles light beer
1/2 pint sherry
Heat one bottle of beer and sherry and pour over sugar and nutmeg, stirring until dissolved. Add remaining six bottles or beer and let stand covered for three hours at room temperature. Garnish with apples roasted with sugar and spices (no butter), and lemon slices or apple wedges dipped in red cinnamon. Serve in silver punch cups.
Heated beer? What in the world?!?! Anyway.
New subject--but still in the Christmas area--
isn't it fun to see other color combos besides red and green for Christmas?
Don't get me wrong--I love a good red&green but look at these...
Mmmm.. .. smoky gray, black and white...

Do you venture outside of red and green? What are your favorite Christmastime colors?

We actually have wassail every year but we don't make it with beer. We don't use any liquor, actually. Just juices and spices. If you'd like the recipe, I can find it. Very good. VERY festive!

I would love to decorate with more neutrals, like the first image. However, I still have a lot of red and green.
As for Wassil, I never knew it was an alcoholic drink. We have always used the packets at the store to make ours. However, my friend, Mandi has an awesome recipe here. I have tried it. It's delicious and no alcohol!
Such pretty decorations! I love the 2nd and 4th images so much! This year we are doing red, green, silver and gold for wreaths and finishing touches although the christmas tree is a rainbow of color.
I have never had wassail per se, but it sounds interesting and I would definitely at least try it once :)
I really want to try Wassail....its sounds delish.
This post is full of gorgeous color and delightful things to look at. I want a want to zap my home full of them:)
I definitely recommend trying wassail at some point! It's delicious and a lighter-calorie alternative to eggnog.
Mary, today I came across this list of decorating books and thought of you. They definitely seem like your kind of thing: http://www.theglamourai.com/2010/12/gift-guide-books-to-live-by.html Maybe you can add one to your Christmas wish list!
Love these colourful Christmas goodies! I am a bit partial to pink and green :)
