i adore open shelving. actually, what i love is MIXED! my friend LE has both---a row of cabinets way up top for the rarely used items and then four shelves below of dishes. it looks fantastic-especially w/ white subway tile behind it.
mary--my friend's just re-did their house and did open shelving in their kitchen. check it: meettheshaffers.com.
The second and last photo are two of my most favorite kitchens ever!! I've had those photos saved in my 'dream kitchen' file for quite some time :)
